Postnatal Recovery Massage

Blessings and thanks to this body, this heart, this mind, these bones. Blessings and thanks to this womb, which served as a beautiful home.

ABOUT THE MASSAGE

The Postnatal Recovery Massage is a restorative and nurturing massage to support the physical and emotional re-balance after having a baby. I trained with body work specialist and author Sophie Messager, who developed this technique with an Osteopath, inspired and informed by Closing The Bones, a traditional Ecuadorian postnatal massage.

I use a traditional Mexican shawl called a Rebozo to relieve pressure and tightness around the pelvis and hips, through a gentle rocking action and by wrapping your hips. Soothing oil is used to massage your abdomen, hips, chest, shoulders and arms. I end the massage with a special poem, which celebrates the transformative journey to parenthood, bringing ritual and ceremony to the experience.

The benefits of THIS POSTNATAL MASSAGE

As well as giving you time out to relax and reflect on your journey so far,  this massage has many physical benefits:

  • Release muscle tension and abdominal fascia (connective tissue that wraps around our muscles and tightens when there is stress)

  • Improve blood flow and movement of the lymphatic fluid (responsible for fighting infection and disease)

  • Reduce uterus and bladder tension, helping to return the uterus to a less anteverted position, taking pressure off the bladder

  • Loosen joints and gently stretch the intercostal muscles, realigning the ribs which have flared during pregnancy

  • Promote gentle closing of the linea alba (fibrous structure that runs down the abdomen), supporting the repair of abdominal separation (Diastasis Recti)

  • Stimulate the parasympathetic nervous system, which helps to regulate all of your bodily functions, whilst bringing the mind into a calm place

planning the massage

I will come to your home with my massage table, although I can host you in a studio in Penryn. Please specify when getting in touch where you would prefer to have the massage.

The massage will last for 1 hour, so ask to allow 1.5-2 hours to include time to set up and get to know each other and for you to totally unwind. If you have a baby with you, we can discuss how best to manage this but it would be preferable if there could be someone there to be with your baby so that you can fully switch off.

The cost is £60 and I also offer digital gift vouchers if you would like to book this as a gift for someone.

The price includes 20 miles of travel from my home in Falmouth. Mileage beyond this is charged at 45p per mile. I am also available to offer the massage in a clinic space in Penryn and don’t charge mileage for this.

i am currently on maternity leave

I will be returning to work in the Autumn of 2024. If you would like to discuss having support from me from September 2024 onwards, please complete the form below to express your interest and I will be in touch with you.

  • "The massage was amazing! It felt so nurturing and grounding, and it was wonderful to feel like I was being looked after and cared for".
