POSTNATAL doula

If a doula were a drug, it would be unethical to use it.
— Dr John Kennell

When I arrive at your house, I’ll be the one to make you a cup of tea. Pyjamas are encouraged and unlike other visitors, you won’t be hosting me.

You can offload how you are feeling, talk to me about how the night was and I am there to listen.

I can support with guidance around feeding, baby care and can signpost additional information and support as needed.

As a mother myself, I understand how important and comforting it is to have the support of someone who is not emotionally involved. Whilst you hold your baby, I am there to hold you.

i am currently on maternity leave

I will be returning to work in the Autumn of 2024. If you would like to discuss having support from me from September 2024 onwards, please complete the form below to express your interest and I will be in touch with you.

ABOUT EACH element OF MY SUPPORT

Emotional support

I will hold a safe space for you to debrief your birth, offload your feelings, share concerns and be there to celebrate successes with you.

Supporting you to acknowledge and understand the physical, emotional and physiological changes you are going through, as well as what’s normal newborn behaviour will help you navigate this transformative time.

Informational support

Ask me any questions! I will provide information (always evidence based and the very best sources) around feeding, baby care, physical recovery and anything that is on your mind.

If you’d like me to help you connect with other parents and local groups, I can share these details and help you build your village.

Practical support

From support with baby care such as sterilising bottles and changing nappies to organisational help such as sorting baby clothes, and anything that will lighten your load such as preparing a meal, my practical support is tailored around what you need on the day.

I may watch your baby or take them out for a walk, giving you time for your own self care, or to sleep, take a shower or just sit in the quiet and in your own thoughts.

Some people find it helpful for me to run errands or attend appointments, giving them confidence on those first outings out with a little one.

What to know more?

I offer a free consultation so that we can get to know each other and talk about how best I can support you. Please fill out the enquiry form below and let’s chat.

This is usually spread over 5 visits of 4 hours each, but visits can be between 3 and 5 hours.

I also offer a pay as you go option at £25 per hour with a minimum of three hours booked per session.

What you get from your investment

  • Our visits together - helping you so that you can parent, feeling looked after yourself.

  • A doula at the end of the phone. The fee includes contact between visits to ask questions or offload any worries you may have.

  • I can research information and gather resources to support your decision making.

  • My fee covers 20 miles of travel per visit. Mileage beyond this may be charged at 0.45p per mile.

Visiting times

Most people get the maximum benefit from having a doula in the fourth trimester (first three months), but please get in touch if your baby is older and let's have a conversation about how I might be able to support you.

If you are intending to chest | breastfeed, it would be preferable for us to have a discussion about this before the birth, giving you information to prepare. It would be good to then have our first visit or at least a chat over the phone within the first three days after the birth when you and your baby are establishing feeding and we can spot any potential challenges. This will enable me to ensure you get the right support early on and get off to the best start possible.
