POSTNATAL DOULA "Nothing in life is to be feared. It is only to be understood" - Marie Curie
As a postnatal doula, my role is guided by the mother and her needs as she settles in to life at home with her baby. I watch her baby whilst she has time for herself, I give support early on with feeding, play with toddlers, prepare meals and bring cake. I can get the hoover out, water the plants and make a great cup of tea! Together we go on shopping trips and walks in the park. I provide information and signpost extra support as needed. I find out where she can meet other mums, or where the best cafes are with comfy sofas and the yummiest cake! I listen and hear her birth story.
Postnatal Care Package We can discuss how best I can support you, which may vary from one visit to the next. Below is an example of the type of support I can offer:
Discuss and share your feelings on the birth
Provide information, answer questions you or your partner may have and support your partner also at this time
Help you in your transition to motherhood; the physiological and physical changes and navigating your new family dynamic
If you are intending to breastfeed, it would be preferable for us to have a discussion about this before the birth of your baby, giving you information to prepare for breastfeeding. It would be good to then have our first visit or at least a chat over the phone, within the first three days after the birth when you and your baby are establishing a good latch and we can spot any potential challenges. This will enable me to ensure you get the right support early on
Give you the opportunity and time for your own self care, whether it’s to sleep, take a shower, exercise, bake or whatever it is you like to do to relax, whilst I look after your baby
Attend appointments with you
Signpost further support or groups and help you to connect with your local mums network if you would like this
Help with other children
Practical help such as light housework, preparing meals, baking, day to day household maintenance and sorting out paperwork
Grocery shopping or going on shopping trips with you and your baby
Night time support can be arranged
