"Thank you for such an informative and helpful day on Saturday. We both got a lot from the course, and enjoyed the day. You have a lovely caring manner which seems perfect to help parents and babies".
Hypnobirthing Birth Stories
Mama H: "So pleased to let you know baby has arrived. The whole labour process was such a positive experience - I had a beautiful impromptu swim in my undies on the beach as the day was so glorious, sunbathed to dry, went in to labour that night, and gave birth in the birthing pool 7am the next morning, T caught him. After an early unnecessary visit to the birthing centre at midnight after my waters broke, where examination showed I was two centimetres dilated, we elected to return home. I got in the bath for three hours and listened to your tracks, which certainly helped for the first 1.5-2 hours, then returned to the hospital at 6am and was 8cm dilated. Got into the pool and he came out shortly afterwards. No stitches. A very positive labour experience!! Keep up the great work."
Mama S: "Our wonderful baby girl finally arrived at 41+4 days by emergency c-section after a nearly 3 day labour. She was a healthy 8oz 3lbs. She’s worth every second, and I’m really proud of myself that I managed to do it all with just breathing, the support of Pat and a TENS machine, until a bit of gas and air and epidural time for the section when she started to show signs of tiring.
Thank you for all the advice about getting the oxytocin flowing to get things moving, and the birth centre with all our candles and spray and positive affirmations was just dreamy.
Although caesarean wasn’t ever our plan A, and the process of being transferred from the Birthing Centre to the delivery suite was very scary for me (I certainly lost my groove after having been in the zone solidly for 2+ days with very very little sleep!), the actual caesarean process was amazing as they did support us with seeing her slowly delivered, delayed cord clamping and skin to skin straight away.
I still feel that she was born in as calm and relaxed a way as possible given the circumstances, so thank you for all your help and advice".
Mama SM: "Wow what an experience. We managed to get the water birth we wanted at the birth centre. It was honestly perfect. Less than 4 hours of established labour. And baby M is an absolute dream. Hypnobirthing definitely helped during labour. I think the continual listening to the hypnobirthing tracks and positive affirmations, and reading my own positive affirmations around the house, throughout my pregnancy, deeply instilled calmness and a strong sense of trust in my body and birth. By the time I got to the end of my pregnancy, I felt so prepared and excited to welcome our baby. Whichever way our birth went I just trusted that it would be beautiful and that my body knew what to do. As labour progressed and I went in to the pushing stage, I felt such a huge shift and could feel my body start pushing. It was incredible just feeling my body do it whilst I breathed through it (very deeply on the gas and air!). The whole time I was thinking “trust your body, go with your body, just relax everything”
Learning all about how labour works and what is happening in your body during labour, all the hormones involved etc also helped. Our bodies are so well designed to birth to our babies! I didn’t tear at all which I partly put down to being in the water, but also because I was saying to myself to keep everything relaxed and to just go with what my body was doing. Giving birth was definitely the hardest, most intense thing I’ve ever done. But I’ve come away from it completely in awe of what our bodies can do and feeling totally empowered. Ultimately hypnobirthing turned my fear of birth in to excitement and total respect for birth and that is what allowed us to have such a positive experience. M is such a chilled out, content baby (so far anyway!) and I really feel that my relaxed pregnancy and labour played a part in that''.
Birth and Postnatal Doula Families
"Emily always seemed to have a tool in her emotional and practical toolkit to help in any given moment throughout the birth. Emily’s birth preparation session was also hugely helpful, it had the right amount of technical knowledge alongside emotional support. She also gave me some great things to practice before birth (like breathing techniques, visualisations and birth affirmations)".
"Emily respected my wishes wholeheartedly, reminded me of them during times when I struggled during the birth and ensured they were understood and adhered to (as far and safely as possible) by the midwife team. Despite this being Emily’s first live birth experience, she had a tremendous amount of knowledge."
"Emily is very knowledgeable and friendly. She’s been a great support from the first time we met. She helped me to create my birth plan, decide on the most important aspects like pain relief, third stage of labour and explained the whole process of birth. Both my husband and I found all the information very helpful as we never went to any prenatal classes".
"Her emotional support was crucial. As a first time mum I often felt like I was failing but Emily always made me feel like I was doing an amazing job. She made a lot of research on my behalf including groups I could join with my baby and encouraged me to go out more often".
"Emily made us both feel calm and confident. My husband appreciated the care she gave to him as well as me. It just felt like it was right that Emily was there for us. It never felt like she was in the way. She helped my husband help me".
"Emily celebrated the birth with me and made me feel like I had done an incredible job. Emily helped me to understand everything that was going to happen next and was beside me when the midwives were busy with the baby. Emily made sure I could start breastfeeding as soon as possible and set up pillows and my position to help facilitate this. Emily made sure everything was in place and I was confident and comfortable before leaving. She also ensured my husband was happy and confident with his roles after the birth".
"I had daily messages from Emily and she visited our family at home as soon as I wanted her to come over. We talked through the birth experience as a whole, celebrated it and Emily asked if there was anything I would have wanted differently from her and/or the hospital staff. Emily ensured to let me know about baby groups I could attend and breastfeeding support groups available. Emily talked through further postnatal support she would provide and could provide going forward. She also arrived with healthy home baked snacks which were a real treat".
"Emily was warm, friendly, calm and instilled confidence throughout the whole process".
"I chose Emily because the words on her website spoke to me, echoing my own wishes and desires around birth. On interviewing her I immediately clicked with Emily. On speaking with her I could tell that she would respect my wishes and the role of the midwives (which was very important to me)".
"Emily talked with the midwives, made sure I understood any choices given to me. She always brought me back to my hypnobirthing breathing, provided sustenance (for me and my husband), lip balm, emotional support, she reminded me of the physiology of the labour process when needed, she gave me and my husband space when it felt right and was present whenever required. Emily worked alongside the midwives really well and to me they felt like a team".
"She was very supportive when we found out about our baby being breech at 37 weeks She also supported me in learning hypnotherapy techniques and recommended some reading. I wanted to have a natural labour and possibility of c section made me very anxious. Emily however explained how I could adapt my birth plan in the way that allowed delayed cord clamping and skin to skin contact which I thought weren’t possible in the case of a c section" .
"She made sure I always made an informed decision providing me with all the information in regards to my questions".
"I looked forward to our meetings every time. I always felt as if I was meeting a friend. We are still in contact and meet occasionally".
"Thank you so much for our session today, You wouldn't believe the positivity it's brought me!"
